Twitter revealed that it is ready to transfer the official @POTUS account to the elected President of the United States Joe Biden after he takes the presidential oath on the Inauguration Day.
A Twitter spokesperson said that the company is ‘'actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021.” He further revealed that the process is being carried out in close consultation with the National Archives and Records Administration.
Other than the @POTUS account, other presidential accounts like @whitehouse, @VP, and @FLOTUS will also be transferred and the current content on these accounts will be archived before moving them over. Furthermore, the accounts will be reset to zero tweets.
Donald Trump will still hold his personal account @realDonaldTrump, except that the special protections and perks that were given to him as per Twitter’s policy for world leaders will not be continued to be given to him. In other words, Trump’s account will be subject to the regular policies as other users’ accounts on the platform.
Facebook also revealed that it will be transferring the official POTUS account on its platform to the incoming administration. The company said that it will make sure to carry out the process in a seamless manner, the same way it did with both the Obama Administration and Trump Administration in the past.
