The Most Famous Mobile Brands: A Timeline

Do you remember your very first mobile phone? Especially if you are from the time when smartphones had not been introduced in the market, then you must remember how simple phones were back then. At that time, phones were more about connecting. Simple texting and calling were the deal, packed with some minor entertainment features such as the snake game. But as the era of smartphones began, the competition got multiplied.

We can see Nokia going down somewhere in 2011 when Samsung gradually takes over to snatch the top place in the phone market. In fact, Nokia wasn't at the top in the very beginning either. At the beginning of the 90s, it was Motorola that was absolutely ruling the mobile phone market. It was only in the late 90s that Nokia took over.

Moving into the 21st century, we can see a few names in the mobile phone market that used to be the giants of their time. But as of now, their names seem to appear blurry as they are apparently extinct from the mobile phone market. We can count Siemens, Ericcson, Panasonic in this list. All of them disappeared somewhere in 2010 when Samsung started taking over Nokia and Apple began to catch up on Samsung with their iPhones as well.

There's a lot that we can catch from the statistics of these best selling phones. Competition between the brands is apparent and witty, as all of them tried to come up with better features in their own phones as compared to their competitors. And of course, they still continue to do so. The following video from Data is Beautiful showcases the all-time best selling phones in a wonderful timeline, ranging from 1993 to 2019.
