Facebook is apparently testing a new feature to let users watch Instagram stories directly from the Facebook app. Although the option of cross-posting Instagram stories to Facebook was already available, the social media company is now experimenting with direct viewing.
To identify an Instagram story on the Facebook app, you will notice that Instagram stories will have the original Instagram icon hues (orange/pink) around the circle on the story thumbnail. They will be distinguishable from the Facebook stories which will have their regular blue-outlined circles.
Moreover, only your Instagram followers who have linked their accounts will be able to view your Instagram stories on Facebook. People who follow you on Facebook only and not on Instagram will not be able to view your stories.
A Facebook spokesperson has confirmed that the testing of this new feature is limited and the company is looking forward to gather sufficient feedback first.
The feature seems to be Facebook's attempt to bring the two platforms closer as last month too, the company released a new update that merged Instagram and Messenger chats.
