What do we know about the composition of cow milk?

It is no news that cow milk is consumed the most in all seven continents globally and yet contains the most quantity of Carbon dioxide. Upon comparison with other plant milk, it was found out that there exists a considerable number of plants that produce milk containing a lesser quantity of Carbon Dioxide.

Research says that cow milk generates the most amount of Carbon dioxide

The recent research carried out by the Science Magazine stated that the cow milk comprises of two substantial ingredients, I.e., water and Carbon dioxide. This might come out as a little surprise for the people who cherish cow milk, but this is the whole truth. The infographic below represents the quantity of the two ingredients held by 1 liter of different milk types, including Almond milk, Rice milk, Oat milk, and Soy milk.

Composition of cow milk

Starting with the infamous cow milk, one liter of cow milk produces around 3.2 kgs of Carbon dioxide and consumes 628 liters of water for its processing procedure. This information emphasizes that these Carbon dioxide emissions affect the environment, making it an unsustainable option.

Composition of Almond milk

The next type of milk called the Almond milk, is derived from the Almond plant, which is considered one of the most water-hungry plants. One liter comprises 0.7 kg of Carbon dioxide, and for its production, it consumes 371 liters of water, which is far more favorable for the environment than cow milk.

Why Rice, Oat, and Soya milk inflict less harm to the environment?

Rice milk and Oat milk, two of the most healthy and beneficial milk, contain 1.2 kgs of Carbon dioxide with the water consumption of about 270 liters and 0.9 kgs of Carbon dioxide with the water consumption of about 48 liters respectively. The consumption of Carbon dioxide by these plant milk is relatively much lesser, which imposes almost insignificant to the environment. However, Soy milk comes with a lot of misconceptions because of its unique ingredients and regional purposes.
