Voting by mail in the US to become more common

The US presidential election is right around the corner, and the presidential campaigns are raging at the moment. The recent patent of voting through the mail is still being reviewed, and the current US President Donald Trump claims that it will not be safe and will leave the 2020 election wide open to fraud.

Many states are preparing to expand access to voting by mail, even though a very few Americans have actually done it. That small number has been increasing over the course of the previous few elections where people opted to vote via mail. In the duration between 1996 and 2016, the share of voters who cast their votes via mail increased up to three times.
Numerically, the share of voters who voted via mail in 1996 was at 7.8 per cent whereas the numbers jumped up to 20.9 per cent in 2016. The 2020 election may see this number further increase due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Below is the visual representation of the share of mail voters in the last six presidential election cycles.
