The Showdown Between TikTok and Instagram: Which is Trending More?

Since social media has now become a trend, many such big and small platforms have appeared in the scene. However, not all of them are able to make it big. Instagram has been around since quite a while now and it also paved its way to success as being amongst the most downloaded apps in the world. But recently, things have turned around for Instagram ever since TikTok has entered the scene.

TikTok's growth has been spectacular and has come to the point where it can be compared to Instagram. Which app is really trending more though? Instagram is quite different from TikTok, in the way it works and the content people usually post on it. Let's first have a look at what TikTok has to offer to its users.

If you remember Dubsmash, the app which let users act out on their favourite dialogues and songs, then TikTok is pretty much the same. The only difference is that TikTok has more copyrighted songs on which videos are created, with dialogues being present here and there but they don't make up most of the content though.
By June 2018, TikTok had become active in 150 countries, and it had gained almost 500 million monthly active users. The videos that TikTok offers belong to a vast array of categories, namely, sports, games, comedy and even many challenges that eventually turn into social media trends.

Now let's have a look at Instagram. Instagram clearly has one feature that TikTok doesn't have— and that's photo sharing. Moreover, the videos of Instagram are of a different nature as compared to the ones on TikTok. TikTok also imposes a limit on videos, whereas on Instagram you can upload any sort of video on IGTV, having a length of more than a minute and up to many hours even.

It is also worth noting that the users on each platform are different. While females make up for most of the users on both the platforms, TikTok is apparently full of a much younger generation. Instagram also has many young users, but it has the presence of many middle-aged and older people as well. With the help of the infographic below, you can further understand how TikTok and Instagram compare to one another.
