YouTube has a bunch of new announcements: an update to YouTube Studio’s mobile app, expansion of Gift Memberships, and updated Product Tagging.

First off, the new YouTube Studio update will allow creators to make direct uploads from their camera roll to the app by tapping on the + icon in the app. Additionally, creators will be able to set their video monetization status during the upload process, hence making  content management more feasible.

Next, YouTube is experimenting with a new Community Posts feed in its mobile app for both iOS and Android devices. Community Posts has become a popular engagement feature where creators share text-based updates with their subscribers. Back in May of last year, YouTube made Community Posts available to all channels.

Talking about the need for a dedicated feed for Community Posts, YouTube says “We’ve heard that a lot of you have been looking for a simpler way to discover more of these posts.” The feed will show all of the posts from channels that a user has engaged with in the past, as well as posts that YouTube’s algorithm recommends based on a user’s engagement.

In the domain of live-stream shopping, YouTube is expanding its affiliate product tagging functionality, enabling live creators participating in the YouTube shopping affiliate program to tag products in real time from participating merchants in their live streams.

Lastly, to help creators grow their channel audience, YouTube will be providing eligible creators with 10 free memberships per month that can be given away within live-streams. Previously, creators could obtain only 5 free memberships a month. “Promotional gift memberships are available on the first of each month, and do not carry over month to month. You must distribute the promotional gift memberships before you can buy gift memberships for your viewers,” explains YouTube.
