School Counselors: The Key to Student Success
School Counselors: The Key to Student Success is an infographic created by Counseling@NYU, a new online master's in school counseling degree from NYU, to demonstrate school counselors’ impact in three core areas: college & career readiness, academic outcomes and social-emotional development.

Forget what you know about your high school guidance counselor — today's school counselors are more than the school professionals who help you get into college. Working with students from preschool - 12th grade, school counselors have become real agents of change on both a student and school level. For example, implementation of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) National Model results in a 30% increase in high school graduation rates. Additionally, schools that align to the recommended 1:250 counselor-to-student ratio result in 94% attendance rates.

Along with college readiness outcomes, school counselors also play a significant role in preK-12 students’ social-emotional development, improving students’ cognition, attitude, self-regulation, behavior and social skills.
