Calories are the dark side of the food we consume. All of that energy is great for helping us to live and do activities, but if we live a sedentary lifestyle then it all gets stored away...usually around our waists. There are plenty of different ways to get out and get active though!
Whether you're fencing, boxing, running, cycling, washing the dog, or juggling, you're burning calories! You even burn calories in your sleep or just by sitting around. The problem is that you don't burn much. So next time you think about eating a burrito or having a couple of beers, take a look at this infographic to figure out how many hours you'll have to spend being active to burn them off! Or, alternatively, how many hours you'll have to go without eating anything else to burn off your food by sitting in front of the television. You'll notice that there are a lot of different activities on here like kickboxing or bowling...but there are also more eclectic activities like officiating basketball or firefighting. Everything we do requires energy, and we get our energy from our food. So it's perfectly healthy to eat your favorite foods as long as you're eating for how active you are!
