Dogs and Babies: How to Train Everyone and Stay Safe
Your fur baby is used to being the one and only baby in the home, so bringing home a new bundle of joy can be a huge adjustment. Before you bring your newborn home, make sure the dog has basic obedience commands--sit, stay, lay down, etc--down pat. Make sure to introduce it to new activities, sounds and toys that will be around when the baby comes home. Also, make adjustments to the dog's schedule about a month before the newborn comes home to get the dog used to changes that will be made once the baby arrives. After the baby arrives, gently introduce the dog to the baby in a quiet and calm place. Make sure that there are no signs of aggression, and use a leash for the first few interactions. Encourage lots of petting, cuddling and shared attention, and use rewards after time spent together.
