A dirty workplace can negatively affect workers’ health and well-being. The team at Stratus Building Solutions shows us which states provide the cleanest workspaces with a new study ranking each state on several factors. They found that these states had the lowest cleanliness scores:
- Tennessee
- North Carolina
- Mississippi
- Virginia
- Connecticut
- Oregon
- Nevada
- Rhode Island
- Alabama
- New Jersey
- Pennsylvania
Unsanitary conditions expose workers to mold, bacteria, and viruses. When air quality is poor, workers are at increased risk of respiratory problems and gastrointestinal issues. Even simple acts, like disinfecting surfaces, can greatly reduce the risk of illness. Professional cleaners, handwashing stations, and paid sick leave will stop illness from running rampant in a workplace, yet more than half of American states lack paid sick leave policies. Some of the dirtiest states on the list, like Tennessee, North Carolina, and Mississippi, lack state requirements for sick leave.
