Study Examines How Americans Go About Quitting Their Jobs
While people quit jobs for many different reasons, a new study from Preply reveals the details of those who have resigned. This gives us a lot of insight into how people communicate when they end a work relationship. The team studied the methods of resignation and found that these were the ways people quit their jobs:

  • In-person conversation – 76% of workers
  • Email – 23% of workers
  • No communication/ghosted – 19%
  • Printed letter – 18%
  • Text message – 10%
  • Handwritten note – 9%

The answers represent various ways to communicate, but workers might approach these conversations with different emotions. Here’s the tone survey-takers said they used:

  • Polite – 64%
  • Neutral – 54%
  • Apologetic – 27%
  • Angry – 12%
  • Passive-aggressive – 12%
  • Sarcastic – 6%

These workers weren’t necessarily honest about their opinions, as 3 in 5 people reported wanting to be more critical and express more emotion when quitting.
