Google Keep for Android is getting new, long-awaited upgrades, mainly basic text formatting options like the ability to bold, italicize, underline, and transform text in notes. Users will, as a result, be able to customize their basic-looking notes into richer ones.

New formatting options in the app

It is safe to say that Keep is finally catching up with other similar apps like Microsoft’s OneNote and Apple’s Notes, that have supported text formatting and other functionalities for a long time now.

The upcoming features in Keep were first spotted by app researchers in May last year and are available in version 5.23.322.05 of the app. Initially, the features will only be applicable for new notes, while previous entries wait a little longer. In case updating the app to the latest version doesn’t work, users can try force-stopping it and clearing cache data.

In the preview images, you can also see a text sizing option including H1 and H2 settings. According to Android Police, the app will “maintain your formatting choices even in checkboxes.” In addition to formatting tools, Keep has also been updated with a version history option that shows a history of text changes made to note entries.
