Microsoft has revamped the web version of its app store for Windows, which includes new UI and an improved, easier process of app discovery.

The previous version of the web version of the Microsoft Store was formed on Microsoft’s old React codebase built on an “obsoleted UI framework,” according to Microsoft engineer Judah Gabriel. The current version, on the other hand, has replaced React codebase with Shoelace, Lit, Vite, and a C# ASPNET backend. These have accounted for a more efficient interface, easier ways to discover apps, and modern web tech stack.

Microsoft has released a preview of its new collaborative hub ‘Loop’ that makes it possible to manage all the Office apps from one place. It can be used to initiate and organize various tasks, projects, and documents, and even share them in the form of editable blocks in other Microsoft platforms like Teams, Outlook, Word (web version), and Whiteboard.

Loop allows up to 50 people to edit a document at once. Its project and task management features are quite handy, such as progress trackers, custom labels, syncing tools, the option to link up suggested files or tag co-workers or friends, and more.

In addition to that, Microsoft will be bringing its 365 Copilot system to Loop, that uses AI to generate ideas and suggestions. In Loop, the chatbot will also support multiplayer mode, enabling multiple people to ask questions to it.

WhatsApp adds Sticker Store to its web interface

Stickers are a great way to express yourself in a conversation. These can be used for expressing emotions, cheering up the mood, or keeping the chat full of fun. Users can share stickers from a wide range available in the mobile app and even download new ones from the Sticker Store within the app and that too, for free.

When it comes to the web interface, the tech giant is seen to not keep it updated for quite a while. Uses have now become used-to of the same interface on the web with now frequent updates. Luckily, the company finally managed to take some time out and took at least one thing about the web interface into consideration i.e., availability of new Stickers.

Duplex is Google’s technology for handling tasks on a user’s behalf, such as making appointments with a human-like voice. The technology is now being spotted by some users on Google Assistant for Web in the form of Fast Checkout during online shopping.

Duplex for web was first introduced by Google in late 2019 to buy movie tickets on behalf of users. You could select a movie, number of tickets, and seat directly in Google Assistant. The technology was further expanded this year to helping place orders for food, by automatically filling out payment details, and also to change stolen passwords in Chrome.

In October of 2020, Google ran a pilot test of Duplex to help with faster checkouts. There are some registered websites where Duplex seems to be available now; Hot Topic is one, for instance.
