How Covid-19 affected Disney’s annual revenue

Disney is one of the most prominent names in theme parks, resorts, and entertainment that generates annual revenue of billions of dollars each year. But, the lockdowns due to coronavirus have adversely affected the company. The company itself told that their theme parks were closed for almost a quarter year and reopened for a very limited number of people who couldn’t gather as much revenue as expected.

With the help of Forbes, this list was compiled of the 100 most valuable brands in the world. The tech industry has dominated the world market for some years and they hold the top 5 places on this list overall. The youngest company on the list, Facebook which was founded in 2004 holds the 5th spot with a staggering brand value of 88.9 billion. That is quite an impressive spot for only being 16 years old. The oldest brand at 221 years old and coming in at the 56th spot is Chase.

Disney+ hits 60 million subscribers

Disney+ was launched in North America and the Netherlands on 12th November 2019. Today, Disney announced that almost after nine months of the launch, the company had hit 60 million paid subscribers. Prior to the launch, the company expected an estimate of around 60 to 90 million subscribers by the year 2024, which now seems like an extremely conservative estimate.

Disney's Segments Crumbling Under the Weight of COVID-19

A company's business model has everything to do with how they generate revenue. Some companies have tweaked their business model as per the COVID-19 situation but the nature of some businesses is such that their models cannot be tweaked in order to run. Theatres, stores and theme parks are among such examples.

In the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, Disney has faced a lot of loss. Where some businesses especially at-home entertainment service providers like Netflix have flourished, other companies like Disney have had a hard time coping with the damage.

According to FuboTV support document, ESPN, ABC, Disney channels and many others are going live on FuboTV, one of the top live TV streaming services. The channels include ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3, ABC, ABC News Live, FX, FXX, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, National Geographic, Freeform, and others. The channels are live on FuboTV as a result of a deal with Disney made on June 24.

FuboTV announced in July that it would be increasing its monthly subscription charges, which now cost $59.99. The price hike is not surprising as this becomes a case when a streaming service strikes a deal for streaming more content.
