After feeling “surprised” over Australian developers’ concerns over its App Store policies, Apple recently told the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) that developers in Australia have several ways to reach iOS users. The company further claimed that developers are "far from limited" to simply using the ‌App Store‌.

Apple has challenged the concerns presented in the recent ACCC report over the tech giant’s alleged exploitation due to its market power as an app distributor. Apple argued that there are multiple avenues that developers can take to reach customers.

Apple insisted that the entire web can be used as a means of distribution. It supported its claim by adding that iOS devices have "unrestricted and uncontrolled" access to the web, so users can download web apps. “One common approach is for users to purchase and consume digital content or services on a website,” said Apple.

Apple Insists that iOS App Developers are Free to Use Other Platforms for App Distribution

Apple has expressed its surprise over some Australian developers having issues with the App Store and the way it reviews, rejects or approves apps. The tech giant has responded to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC)’s to-be-released investigation report that is based on data collected about consumer, supplier, and developer experience in Australia. The commission plans to release its report on March 31 and in an attempt to defend its App Store and App Review processes, Apple has provided some information in the form of a submission to ACCC.

Apple argued that it "invests significant time and resources in engaging with developers directly" to ensure the quality of apps on the platform. It added that its app review system is a "human-led process" and that all human reviewers ensure that apps "are reliable, perform as expected, respect user privacy, and are free of objectionable content."

Following the Australian Government’s action towards making changes to its proposed Media Bargaining Code, Facebook has announced its agreement to restore the Pages of Australian news publishers on its platform. The company is getting more time to negotiate separate deals with publishers and as a result, it would be able to launch Facebook News in the region.

“After further discussions, we are satisfied that the government has agreed to a number of changes and guarantees that address our core concerns about allowing commercial deals that recognize the value our platform provides to publishers relative to the value we receive from them," Facebook said in a statement about the new agreement.

A total of four amendments have been made to the Australian Government’s proposed code, among which, the main addition suggests that "A decision to designate a platform under the code must take into account whether a digital platform has made a significant contribution to the sustainability of the Australian news industry through reaching commercial agreements with news media businesses."

Australian Government’s Code Amendments Allow Facebook to Restore Pages of Australian News Publishers

Australia proposed a new law, according to which Google is required to pay news publishers for their content. Google responded saying that it would take down its search engine from the country if the law goes into effect.

VP of Google Australia and New Zealand Mel Silva told Australia’s Senate Economics Legislation Committee that the company would have no choice but to “stop making Google Search available in Australia.”

Google has been lobbying against Australia’s plan for months and argues that Australia’s new law would set an “untenable precedent” for its business as well as the digital economy. “It’s not compatible with how search engines work,” the company argued.

Australian Prime Minister didn’t sit back and immediately responded with a straightforward statement. “Australia makes our rules for things you can do in Australia. That’s done in our Parliament. It’s done by our government. And that’s how things work here in Australia,” said the Prime Minister.

The Rising Trends in Australian Funerals

It may be hard for someone to think that trends related to funerals can also change. But nonetheless, it is a fact. There are a variety of customs, traditions and rituals that people tend to follow before bidding a final farewell to their beloved. These traditions vary from religion to religion, even within various sects, and can also differ from region to region, depending geographically on ancestors.

From all the countries in the world, let's focus on the Australian funeral trends at the moment. One of the trends that can be clearly seen in Australia is of people preferring cremation over burial. Cremation may sound like it is followed only by Hinduism where it is compulsory for the body to be cremated, but it is being followed as an independent choice by people belonging to other customs or religions as well.

The cost of a burial

Burial costs are up high and the expensive. Burial costs vary from place to place but it can be said that dying will cost a lot of money. There are many misconceptions about burials and what they cost. Particularly in Australia, the burial costs differ in many regions. The natives question this everyday but fail to seek the answer.

Burial plots are not the same throughout Australia. The place influences the prices of a burial plot. Of course, a major city like Sydney or Melbourne will have higher prices in the cemetery. This is probably due to the fact that the cemeteries are up to capacity in the major cities. You are more likely to pay less in regional areas for a burial plot.

How do men in Australia deal with divorce?

Divorce is undoubtedly extremely traumatizing and tough to deal with for both the husband and the wife. No matter how long both have lived with each other, there are always some things that trouble both the parties after divorce as they have to struggle hard in order to get past the myriad of emotions. Some unavoidable arguments or issues can lead to the decision of ending up the marriage. As per the Australian Institute of Family Studies, one out of every 500 Australian gets divorced. However, with the term ‘divorce’ all that people focus on and think about are the women and their children, whereas, men are mostly overlooked in the matter. This infographic will explain how men in Australia deal with divorce.

Rights of men in divorce

Divorce rights of men and women mostly depend on the laws of the region. If we talk about Australia specifically, the rights of men and women in divorce are pretty similar. Divorce rights are not categorized on the basis of gender; however, the only rights that the state consider are children’s rights.

Do the fathers get child support, and how do they deal with it?

Well, in most of the cases, men are the ones to pay child support after divorce; however, any of the two parents can do so. Usually, the non-custodial parent is likely to pay for child support to the custodial parent. Child support is neither categorized as a man’s right or woman’s right, in fact, it is the child’s right hence if the mother is the non-custodial parent then she is required to pay child support to the custodial parent, i.e., her ex-husband.

Who would want to lose their kid? Every good parent wants to take the best care of their child. Children get extremely troubled with the divorce of their parents which is why there are strict laws of children’s right that helps the children to have a good relationship with both of their parents unless the situation is extreme. Australian law gives the custody of the child to the parent that has a better and stronger bond with the child but, better communication is highly important among both parties even after divorce for a safer future of their kid.

The 5G revolution and what changes it will bring

5G internet is the next big thing for the internet. The comparison between 4G and 5G is striking and never has any other generation seen such spikes in internet speed and performance difference. 5G is noticeably faster than 4G but the market for 5G is still very immature. This technology is only active in four countries.

In comparing the download speeds of 4G and 5G networks, we have seen a huge difference. According to data analysis, Saudi Arabia had the highest download speed than any other country with 414.2 Mbps, which is 14 times higher than the download speed it is getting on 4G. South Korea has some of the fastest broadbands and mobile network and even with 4G it holds up exceptionally well. Even so, the 5G networks amplify the download speeds to 312.7 Mbps, which is five times faster than its 4G network.

An antitrust law has been proposed in Australia that is forcing tech firms to pay for news that appears on their social media platforms. Google has raised its voice against the law, saying that the law would adversely affect content creators and channel operators.

According to Google, the law would assist big media firms inflate their search ranking artificially, hence receiving an unfair advantage over individuals who are running their own websites or YouTube channels. Google's YouTube video service helps individuals and companies run their channels that feature advertisements, and as a result, generate revenue for both themselves and YouTube.
